Overview

Firmex can automatically number directories and sub-folders according to the schema specified by the Project Administrator. Automatic numbering may be turned on or off for the entire project and may be turned on and off at each directory. The schema used may be different for each directory.

Folders may also be auto-arranged alphabetically, in which case Firmex’s numbering will be turned off.

Also, folders may be manually ordered, in which case Firmex’s numbering will be turned off, and the Project Administrator may reorder the folders using Firmex’s drag-and-drop capabilities.

Applying Schema to Directory or Below Directory

Schema may be applied directly to directories or to the sub-folders below each directory.

In the case of Apply Numbering To Directory, the numbering will appear in front of each directory. The schema will apply to all folders within the project with each folder having a unique number associated with it. Schema applied with this setting may be altered at any time by changing the Default Numbering Schema value, which will apply schema changes to all directories except those that are individually customized.

In the case of Apply Numbering Below Directory, the numbering will appear in front of each folder starting below the directory.  The schema will apply independently to each directory and numbering may be repeated from directory to directory. Each directory will reference the project setting for Numbering Setting, Apply Numbering and Default Numbering Schema (unless set individually).

To set the schema in your project:

  1. Click the Settings tab
  2. Set the Numbering Setting to Automatic Numbering
  3. Set the Apply Numbering to either To Directory or Below Directory

Set Default Numbering Schema or Numbering for New Directories as appropriate (see below). Then, click Save Changes.

Set Numbering for New Directories

When updating numbering or schema in your Settings tab, changes will only be applied to directories with a default numbering schema, not directories with individually set schemas. To ensure that changes are applied to all directories, Remove Numbering from Existing Directories if necessary (see below).

  1. In your project, click the Settings tab.
  2. In the Numbering Setting field, specify a Numbering Setting:
    • Automatic Numbering automatically numbers each folder in a directory using the numbering scheme specified in the Numbering Scheme field.
    • Hide Numbering and manually order turns off Firmex’s auto-numbering and allows you to manually order folders in a directory.

    • Hide Numbering and auto-order alphabetically turns off Firmex’s auto-numbering and automatically arranges folders alphabetically.
  3. If Automatic Numbering is selected, enter the way you would like folders to be numbered. You may choose from the characters A, AA, a, aa, I, i, 1 and use a period as a divider. For example:
    I.A.1.a
    AA.a.1.1
    A.I.1.1
  4. Click Save Changes.
