Using an Authenticator App to Log In to Firmex VDR

This article applies to users who have an Authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy as their Two-Step Verification method.

In this article you’ll learn how to log in to the Firmex VDR using an Authenticator app as a Two-Step Verification method.

Step 1: Download an Authenticator App

On Android devices

1. From your Android device, open the Google Play Store.
2. In the Google Play Store, from the Search bar, search for an Authenticator app such as Google Authenticator by Google LLC.
3. Select Install. This installs the Authenticator app on your device.

On Apple devices

1. From your Apple device, open the App Store.
2. In the App Store, from the Search bar, search for an Authenticator app such as Google Authenticator by Google LLC.
3. Select Install. This installs the Authenticator app on your device.

Step 2: Link the Authenticator app to Firmex

1. Log in to the Firmex website with your existing credentials.
2. After entering your password you’ll see a window asking you to set up your Authenticator app. This window contains a QR code. You’ll need to scan this code using your Authenticator app.
3. Open the Authenticator app on your smart device.
4. At the bottom right corner of the app, click the + (plus) button. Note that this step may be different depending on your app.
5. Select "Scan a QR code" or if your smart device doesn’t have a functioning camera, select "Enter a setup key".
6. Follow the instructions on your smart device to scan the QR code. Alternatively, manually enter the 32 digit code displayed in the Firmex screen into the Google Authenticator app.
7. If the previous steps were performed correctly you’ll see a six digit security code on your smart device generated by the Google Authenticator app. This number is auto-generated and changes every minute.
8. Type in the six digit security code that is displayed in your Authenticator app into the Firmex website.
9. Your Authenticator app is now linked in with your Firmex account.

This linking process is only necessary if a user’s device is lost, if the user has a new phone, a factory reset on a phone, etc.

Log in to the Desktop App with an Authenticator app

At this time logging in to the "Firmex VDR for iOS" app using an Authenticator app is not supported. Contact your Firmex site administrator for an alternative method of Two-Factor Authentication for use with the mobile app.

Users will be able to log into Desktop app using an Authenticator App, however the user might see some unusual text during the process.

The user will not be able to set up the Authenticator app in the Desktop or Mobile Apps. They must use the Firmex website to set up their Authenticator app.
