Hiding Excel Formulas in the Firmex Viewer

Overview

When you upload an Excel file with formulas into Firmex, users can easily view and inspect the formulas in the Firmex Viewer by clicking on the cells and looking at the Formula bar.

How to Hide Formulas in Excel Files

If you’d like to hide the formulas, you can use the following steps in Microsoft Excel before uploading the document into Firmex:

  1. Select the range of cells whose formulas you want to hide. You can also select nonadjacent ranges or the entire sheet.
  2. Select Home > Format > Format Cells.

  3. On the Protection tab, select the Hidden check box.
  4. Select OK.
  5. On the Review tab, select Protect Sheet.
  6. Enter a password and click OK.

You can now upload the Excel file to Firmex, and the formulas will be hidden. 

Will a password be required to open the file?

No, there is no prompt to enter a password when viewing the document. The password is only required when trying to unprotect the file in Microsoft Excel.
