Document Exchange for Desktop Tool Retirement

Overview

Over recent years, Firmex has been steadily making improvements to the Firmex Virtual Data Rooms’ in-browser file management capabilities.  At present, you can, in a single action, upload up to 50GB of data (single file or multi-files), and download an equally large amount of data (downloads will be chunked into 20GB spanned zip files).

With these enhancements in place, the Document Exchange for Desktop tool (commonly referred to as the ‘Desktop tool’) is no longer providing value as a stand alone upload/download application. Due to low utilization and the increasing cost and complexity to support the aging Desktop tool, Firmex has determined it is time to retire it.

What is changing?

As of May 30th, 2025, the Desktop tool will no longer function. Given the increased capabilities of in-browser file management, you can now do all your uploading and downloading in the same place where you perform other VDR actions: Firmex VDR.

In rare circumstances where you require to upload/download more than 50Gb of data at a time, please follow these best practices.

What will happen if I try to continue using the Desktop tool?

After May 30th, 2025, you will no longer be able to use the Desktop tool to transfer files.

If you are uploading or downloading in the Desktop tool on May 30th, 2025 when the service is shut down, the transfer will be interrupted and will not complete.

It is recommended to uninstall the application now to ensure there isn’t an interruption in your file transfer process (see below).
